Job Title: Principal – Senior Principal/Co-Team Lead

Summary of Position: This full-time position is a key part of the LeSar firm’s leadership, working collaboratively to help set vision, direction, and tone for the firm and for the firm’s Homelessness Solutions team. This team supports systems change work in homeless systems of care through:

  1. The development and implementation of cross-sector housing and homelessness services strategies and innovations with clients including local jurisdictions engaged in programmatic and resources planning
  2. Broad community technical assistance and targeted organizational and systems strengthening work
  3. The use of data to identify, define, assess, and display challenges facing organizations and communities
  4. Increasing the capacity for organizations and communities to use data to measure and refine system performance
  5. Development and management of private and public sector flexible funding pools and the infrastructure to support their implementation
  6. Solutions-oriented stakeholder engagement
  7. Fostering emerging and maturing solutions 

LeSar Development Consultants is headquartered in San Diego, and has staff located throughout California and nationally. This position will work remotely for the foreseeable future. Preference for a candidate based in
Southern California.

Successful candidates for this role have deep expertise (10-15+ years) in homeless systems of care or other safety net systems that serve vulnerable and underserved populations. Ideally, the candidate will have experience working on homelessness and supportive housing system change work nationally and in California.

Critical to succeeding in this role as Co-Team Lead are having demonstrated skills and success/aptitude in:

  1. External systems change leadership and business line representation
  2. Internal team collaboration, talent development and management
  3. Project management; community group facilitation; and creating and delivering engaging presentations to public and private sector leaders
  4. Commitment to further deepening the ways in which we center equity within our firm and in our work with our clients and partners
  5. Prior experience in direct service with homeless clients a plus
  6. Experience in leading with racial justice and equity-centered lens a plus

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Client Work

  1. Oversee the planning, implementation, wrap-up, and evaluation of client work ensuring that the firm delivers consistently at a level of excellence for each client
  2. Evaluate each client and plan the work so we meet clients where they are at in their systems development and change process and help them understand and implement sector best and promising practices.
  3. Pro-actively coordinate with other firm teams and external partners to bring forth the optimal package and level of services for each client within their budget allocations

Business Line Leadership, Management and Development

  1. Oversee and provide ongoing management of a book of business including managing the client and the internal teams providing services
  2. Cultivate and manage relationships with new clients
  3. Contribute to and engage in business line planning and business strategy development
  4. Conduct business development in designated geographical and subject matter areas, collaborating with other teammates and teams to prepare written proposals and participate in meetings to maximize revenue opportunities for the firm
  5. Participate in internal relationship planning and evaluation, and business strategy meetings
  6. Represent our firm and our leadership team in a professional manner externally and internally

Team Development and Management

  1. Work with other co-team lead to develop, manage, and achieve revenue projections through diligent team workload planning, sound client budget management and prudent use of marketing and professional development allowances
  2. Oversee talent development and performance development of homeless solutions team staff in conformance with the internal career pathways plan; collaborate with and mentor junior staff on other firm teams as needed
  3. Monitor, track, and coordinate assignments of staff assigned to ensure timely completion of projects
  4. Monitor schedules of performance to ensure compliance and timely completion of projects
  5. Share and collaborate in the firm’s systems of management and maintenance of systems for monitoring policy developments, funding opportunities, and trends in homelessness, and other designated areas
  6. Maintain ongoing communications with internal team members, clients, and external stakeholders as appropriate to fulfill contractual obligations within budget in a timely manner
  7. Attend regular all-staff, leadership team, and homeless solutions team meetings as required
  8. Perform other duties as assigned entailing being in service to the firm

Required Qualifications

Subject Matter and Technical Competencies

    • Best practices in ending homelessness including deep knowledge of the spectrum of proven and emerging housing and services solutions
    • Systems change assessment and practice
    • Federal, state, regional and local policy platforms, laws, regulations, and funding programs governing supportive housing and homeless programs and funding
    • Principles and practices of business communication and correct use of the English language including spelling, grammar, and punctuation
    • General technology applications, time-keeping software programs and workload planning and management systems, and CRM systems
    • Specific applications including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as Teams and other virtual meeting software

External Market Facing Competencies

    • Educate and implement best practices in client services delivery and evaluation
    • Advocacy, public and government relations skills with respect to a wide variety of issues related supportive housing and homelessness
    • Verbal, written and visual communication of complex policies, programs and best practices to diverse public and private organizations and individuals
    • Delivery of digestible and appropriately tailored public presentations
    • Delivery of clear, concise, comprehensive and visually effective and impactful reports

Internal Facing Competencies

    • • Lead and manage a team or deep technical and client management experience with relevant qualifications enabling an upward move to team leadership and management

Education/Experience: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Public Policy, Social Work, Urban Planning, Public Administration, Business Administration or other related fields and a minimum of ten years of related and increasingly responsible experience.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands, use a laptop computer, communicate via telephone, reach with hands and arms, and in a post-Covid environment to travel on public transportation, by car, ride share, train and airplane. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with physical disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Travel Expectation: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this position is remote until such time as California public health officials determine it safe to resume professional activities safely in person.

When normal professional activities resume, the person in this position will be expected to travel to San Diego at least once monthly and to be available for travel within California and nationally at least 20% of the time including occasional overnight stays of 1 to 2 nights at a time.

Compensation and Benefits:

    • Salary DOQ ranging from $120,000-$140,000 with the potential for 25% of base salary in performance based bonuses
    • Participation in firm’s medical, dental, vision, long-term disability, and life insurance plans with firm
      contributions of up to $500 per month
    • Participation in the firm’s 401(k) plan, with firm contributions of 3% of compensation per plan year (subject to vesting requirements)
    • Reimbursement of up to $100 per month for cell phone and/or home office internet expenses and up to $25 per month for home office supplies
    • 11 paid holidays per year
    • Request paid time off as needed
