As climate change and housing remain top issues facing this country and globally, the most vulnerable communities are at the highest risk of being impacted by extreme weather events and housing instability. Historically, such communities have been overlooked in clean energy funding, resulting in disinvestment and exacerbating their vulnerabilities.

The Inflation Reduction Act and the Justice40 initiative represented a historic moment in addressing such inequities. However, the Trump administration has eliminated housing and climate investments through a flurry of executive orders and actions.

It is imperative to continue this work. To continue moving the market, the Climate Smart Housing Collective (CSHC), comprising Global Policy Leadership Academy (GPLA) and Community Sustainability Partners (CSP), with generous support from Wells Fargo Foundation, has developed resources for the clean energy and affordable housing industries. Our website offers case studies, reports, and a funding database to guide public agencies, lenders, affordable housing developers, and others at the intersection of housing and climate on accessing funding and effectively designing programs that advance the equitable decarbonization of affordable housing.

As policy, programming, and investment at the intersection of climate and housing continue to develop, regionally tailored and funded solutions are crucial amidst federal unpredictability; the Climate Smart Housing Collective remains dedicated to advancing this work. We additionally would like to highlight collaborators who have been advancing valuable related efforts, including Strategic Actions for a Just Economy (SAJE) through their recent article and other partners listed in the acknowledgments in the Multisector Roadmap for Resourcing Equitable Decarbonization in Affordable Housing.
